Today is hot, but this weekend should be high 60s and perfect for apple and pumpkin picking in the Hudson Valley. Add some excitement to your apple orchard trip with the Guinness Book of World Records. You can break a current record or create a category of your own. It is also fun just to impress your family with some of these amazing apple farm themed accomplishments. Note: Most pictures are complements of Guinness Book of World Records.
Weighed 1.849 kg (4 lb 1 oz) and was grown and picked by Chisato Iwasaki at his apple farm in Hirosaki City, Japan October 24 2005. A blend of a Crispin (Mutsu) and Fuji, both of which are ready to pick Hurds Family Farm in late October.
Our Crispins are already pretty big with 2 months left to grow. Maybe you will pick a record breaking apple when you come!
Weighs 1,190.49 kg (2,624.6 lb), was grown by Mathias Willemijns (Belgium) and authenticated by the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth (GPC) in Ludwigsburg, Germany, on 9 October 2016. Competition is fierce in the world of car-sized pumpkins, with the record for the biggest having changed hands five times in as many years. Current champion pumpkin grower Mathias Willemijns' pumpkin behmoth took the title from the 1,054‑kg (2,323-lb) monster grown by Swiss farmer Beni Meier in 2014.

Is 125.73 cm (49.5 in) and was achieved by KQSC Mountain Country (USA) in Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA on 15 December 2017. Our yummy 6 pack of donuts may just be the World's Best Cider Donuts, although that is too subjective to enter in the Guinness Book of World Records.
In two minutes is 27 by Erin Lavoie (USA) achieved on the set of Guinness World Records: Die GroBten Weltrekorde in Germany, on 19 December 2008. You can come back this winter and chop your own Christmas tree right at Hurds Family Farm in Modena. NY. We sell them wholesale and have plenty for you to purchase to beat the record. Visit Susan Hurd in Brooklyn to purchase one of our pre-cut trees. Sign up for our emails to get updates. There are 2 pie records that are very similar and leaves a person to wonder, what is the difference between pie and a slice of pie...?
Is 421.60 m (1,383 ft 2 in) and was achieved by Carrefour and Téléthon (both France) in Paris, France, on 9 December 2017. The pie slices used for the record attempt were apple pie slices each measuring 20 cm. Check my math, but that’s over 2000 slices of pie!
Consists of 1,608 pies, and was created by Vittoria and Benjamin Pacillo of Bryce's Bakery (Australia) in Elizabeth, Australia, on 24 March 2016. The line consisted of apple pies, each one 19.91 cm (7.83 in) in diameter, and the attempt took place at Elizabeth City Centre, South Australia. The line measured 319.99 m (1049.83 ft). We have some delicious pies at the farm this year made by Rockland Bakery, bring one home or eat a pie after you have lunch at our farm to table cafe.
And collected is 7,180.3 kg (15,830 lb) picked in eight hours by George Adrian of Indianapolis, Indiana, USA on 23 September 1980. Although, supposedly Nicholas Hayes picked 24 bins of granny smith apples in 8 hours in Batlow, New South Wales, Australia in 1976..which is approximately 12,000 kg., which still stands as the world record....? We have over 20 varieties of apples for you to choose from to break the record, please buy the bags before you pick.
In one hour is 109 and was achieved by Trevor Hunt (USA) on the set of NBC's The Meredith Vieira Show in New York, New York, USA, on 21 October 2014. Come see our pumpkin carving demo during our Special Events Pumpkin Fiesta Weekend.
One of Guinness World Records that is broken most often is...
In one minute is 37 and was achieved by Cherry Yoshitake (Japan) at Oasispark in Kakamigahara, Gifu, Japan, on 11 October 2015. This could make a fun game at your next farm Apple Picking Birthday Party. Although eating an apple while it is hanging from a string may be a bit more sanitary and equally as funny to watch.
The rules state that it has to be measurable with just one variable, like largest apple cider donut or most apple cider swallowed in 1 minute. It also has to be something that can be accomplished anywhere in the world. Remember there has to be a witness to the breaking of the record, and you might want to apply first.
Hope to see you at the World's Best Pick Your Own Apple Farm this fall aka Hurds Family Farm!
